The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School is a K-5 school located in Cambridge, MA. Platinum certification was achieved through a 72% reduction in energy use with geothermal wells and a photovoltaic array that meets 47% of the school's energy needs. The project was able to minimize potable water use with a 30, 000 gallon cistern that was used to cover the flushing load for the building. This project prioritized student and community engagement through community gardens with raised planting beds that are incorporated into the curriculum.
